From the Vatican we were bound for Venice.
Arrived at 7 found our little shack rooms and Had an 8pm dinner of wine salad bread of course followed by gnocchi and chili pasta which was all fantastico.
We're given our masks for the masquerade party that night however everyone was a bit tired that night. Went and sat at the bar and had a chat, some people had a few drinks but all in all it was an early night.
Started the day with a good breakfast at 8 on the bus at 9 shuttled in to the people mover across to venice then started our walking tour with Emily towards st marks square along the main walking drag. The sights along the way were beautiful so loads of snaps were taken.
Had a quick look at the bridge of sighs and the main canal before heading to our lace demonstration. I think even the boys had a bit more appreciation for hand made lace after this. Finding out it takes about 8 months to stitch together a table cloths.
Our canal ride was after this. So glad we did this, seeing Venice has to be done via the canals. The little shops that have entrances via the canals are so cute. Venice pretty much just uses their canals as roads. We saw th rubbish boat, police boat, ambulance boat and water taxis on our journeys. Makes sense though.
We were getting a bit grumpy by early afternoon and decided it was time to find a lunch spot on the canal. This turned out to be more of a mission than first anticipated resulting in us waking most of the way back to where we started the tour. This sounds simple enough but Venice is like a maze designs to lose tourists in it's streets which look identical to each other and amongst its 400 odd bridges. trying to remember which way to go was a mission but by the power of our 5 heads combined we were captain planet.
Had a similar pasta lunch on a canal siting down and just soaking in the Venice atmosphere. It was great. Ventured back towards st marks square and bought a few touristy bits and bobs including amazing masks, hats etc ans some peach bubbles (we think its a venecian/italian thing) on the way. And of course before heading back to the people mover we had to have our last gelato in Italy. Tiramisu and cream caramel. Om nom.
Back at the hostel we quickly donned the togs bathers whatever we could find and hit the pool. Was great to be off our feet after hours walking and also a slight relief from the 40degree temps of the day.
Dinner was again salad and bread with wine followed by sundried tomato chicken and some kind of pasta. Can't remember what but we know it was amazing. Topped this meal off with our own sundaes. M&ms hundreds and thousands aaaaand chocolate sauce. Fatties.
Jumped back in the pool to try work this off before getting cleaned up, phoning home and calling it a night.
Early start in the morning bound for Austria and a long day of travelling with a movie and games. Stunning scenery on the drive. Drive through some gorgeous green mountains.
Lesson from Venice:
Don't try and buy a people mover ticket with a fifty euro note. It doesn't work.
