Hayley & Holly On Tour 2006
Happy Mothers Day! We have both been able to talk to our Mums and Dads on the phone today for the first time since we left which was lovely. Hope both Mummys have enjoyed their special days, we love you both!
Well today has been a strage one, we had lots of stuff to organise for the Vietnam leg of or trip so spent most of the morning on the internet looking for decent hostels to stay in (well, Holly did really. I spent most of mine in the toilet). We have found one we're really excited about on the coast in Hoi An, it's got a lovely beach and as Hol and I are still crazily pasty it will be then that we can put some serious work in!
We went back to Orchard Road at lunch time for an ice cream for $1, it was delicious. Still feeling ropey, we decided to go to Chinatown very briefly and then head home for a bit of rest. I thought Chinatown was a bit shabby to be honest, and I really wanted to get a photo looking down Pagoda Street but all you can see looking back are loads of Coca Cola umbrellas blocking the really lovely traditional buildings behind them. Bloody conglomerates.
We went back to the local food hall for a take away of chicken noodles and fresh fruit all for $5, and then headed back out for the Night Safari at Singapore Zoo. This was very interesting and educational. The ticket gains you admission to the Park, to the Creatures of the Night show, three walking trails and a guided tram ride through the Park. The lighting is all very spotted so most of the time you're in total darkness as the idea is you spot the nocturnal animals that you won't see in the zoo. There's a real emphasis on conservation and endangered species, it's really clever though how it's done. We saw hippos, rhinos, tigers and all sorts of others. No photos allowed though (although it seemed as if Holly and I are the only ones who observed that rule), so you'll all have to visit to see for yourselves.
Anyway as tomorrow is our last day we have boring laundry to look forward to in the morning and then we're off to see some War Memorials and finally to Raffles for our long awaited Singapore Sling.
Love to all, we miss you! Keep the messages coming.
