We arrived safely in Thailand at 4pm yesterday afternoon (9am british time). Took a taxi to Khao San Road, backpacker central of Bangkok. The taxi was interesting, there wasn't enough space for all of our backpacks so 2 of them ended up in the front seat and constantly attempting to fall on the driver. This also led to the loss of one of his rearview mirrors, which could have been a disaster, but in Thailand they have 3! I do wonder how often they are used though...
We're currently staying at a place called D&D hostel, bang in the middle of the road. The air-con in the room is so good that I actually need to put a hoodie on inside! But as soon as you leave the room the heat hits you straight away, and it's only 11.30am. We'll stay here until at least tomorrow, it's only about 6 pounds each per night and it's worth it for the air-con alone!
Last night we got acquainted with this road, Emma & Gaelle had some pad-thai from a street vendor and we all had huuuuge beers. Something about heat and beer is definitely a good combination. Whenever you are stood/sat still for 2 seconds someone attempts to sell you something, there are some very odd things! The coolest last night though was definitely these blue lit up toys which you fire into the air and come down with a little light show. Think one would probably hurt if it hit you, the sellers were all cowering with their hands over their heads once they'd fired them!
Later today we will probably try to get out of this road, it's far too easy to get comfortable here as it's probably more English-speaking than England! There's a park and apparently some temples not too far from here which would make for some good sight-seeing and pictures :) Pics will be up when I have more than about 5, which is all the chance I've gotten so far.
Still trying to get used to the fact that I am going to be away from home for 4 1/2 months. The thought of being without my bed, routine and generally without a moment to myself seems quite odd at the minute. Missing Huw a lot already and it's only been 2 days! He was kind enough to call me last night though, at a normal time for him which was 1.30am our time as I could barely sleep at all last night. The most welcome phonecall I've had in a long time :)
Not much more to say really, and still quite sleepy, so will write more next time.

Michelle Good to hear you are there safely- how are you coping with the temperatures- 39 degrees forecast by the end of the week! I looked up the D&D Inn and it gets mixed reviews! Does it have a rooftop pool? Sounds nice. Speak soon- Mum.
Hannah The temperature is not too bad, so far we have stayed inside early afternoon when it's been the most hot! D&D is apparently very nice by Bangkok standards, it is quite basic but not much else can be expected for the price! It does have a rooftop pool! It's very greasy though, being full of suncream so we have only been in once briefly! xx
