Even just from reading about Chiang Mai we both fell in love with this beautiful northern town. Compared to Bangkok it's so chilled out, the temperature is a couple of degrees cooler, less humid plus you don't get pestered by ticket touts at every corner.
Highlights so far have been: -
Sunday walking market- 100's stalls selling everything you could ever possible need, like ever. Had amazing handicrafts, I purchased some funky Thai purple butterfly trousers and elephant print bag for £1.80. Plus it jingles so clare and I can always find our way back to each other. Also had some amazing food stalls (will post in a separate blog).
Have visited lots of temples our favourite so as was Wat Phra Singh, which sat ontop of a mountain just out of the city. The views were amazing and the air so fresh.
Thai massage(1 hour £3.60) by the friendly ladies at the women's correction centre. This was set up as a lovely day spa with the proceeds going towards the women's futures once released.
Thai cookery course, made 5 different Thai dishes (and ate them all) including papaya salad, spring rolls, green curry, seafood soup, deep fried bananas and water chestnuts in coconut milk YUM!! Hoping to try out out new found knowledge in the kitchen when we return.
I spent 2 days trekking which included sing in waterfalls, a very enjoyable motorbike ride, visit to the elephants and bamboo rafting while clare and an enjoyable day bathing and playing with the elephants at the conservation sanctuary for rescued elephants.
Now off to get the bus to Chiang Rai, we're slowly making our way to the boarder crossing for Loas.
Miss you all H x x
