We've racked up a load of miles since our last post. Travelled north from Chiang Mai for about 2 hours (bus) to get to Chiang Rai. This was the home of an amazing temple (no 1 on our top temples list) know for its uniqueness of being white.
The next day we travelled a further 2 hours to the Lao boarder where we stayed in the most random basic guesthouse and later found the most lovely hotel at the top of our price range where we COULD have stayed. It was lush with views of the Mekong and Lao mountainside the distance. It was not meant to be.
We exited Thai immigration and crossed the Mekong by long boat with our millions of bags (plus cushions ready for slow boat to Luang Prabang- 2 day journey). We then entered Lao and travelled to the slow boat landing.
Now we had accessed our options when it came to getting to Luang Prabang and had decided that we valued our lives far too much to take the speed boat (very dangerously fast) so as we had time, we took the slow boat.
The slow boat was extremely cramped, spaceless and very SLOW but the scenery was breathtaking. The first day we were on board for 6 hours then stayed overnight at a little town before continuing for 8 hours to get to Luang Prabang. You could say that we'll happily not set foot on a boat for a while. Looking forward to being based in one place for a couple of days
