We spent a couple of nights in Tillamook which is best known for its cheese industry. Apparently thousands stop here annually to visit the famous Tillamook Visitor Centre and indeed on the day we visited the place was heaving. People were queueing to try the cheeses and the hundreds of flavours of ice cream and the shop was doing a roaring trade selling their produce.
Peter cycled the three capes drive, three of the coast's most stunning headlands. At Tillamook the US 101 coastal road heads inland for 30 miles but there is a smaller scenic road called The Three Capes Drive which is a slow, winding hilly and bumpy road ideal for biking taking in the coasts most stunning headlands, lighthouses and panorramic vistas. We woke to tthick mist rolling off the Pacific but by the time he set off it was nearly cleared leaving a dark blue cloudless sky and hot at 30 +. the views were breathtaking as the road was extremely hilly with steep climbs that were rewarded with spectacular views of the coastline and inlets sycling down to small sandy bays seeing Oregon at its best. He finally arrive dback at 5.30 exhausted having done nearly 70 miles buzzing about the scenery. He even managed to find a coffee along the way somewhere even tthough much of the ride was in isolated places.
