From Sisters our journey took us to Bend where you can ski powder in the morning, paddle a kayak in the afternoon and take in a game of golf. There is exceptional biking, hiking, mountaineering, fly fishing and rock climbing. This is a premier outdoor city which also boasts good restaurants, fantastic shopping and concerts and theatre by the river. Nowhere else could you listen to a concert floating down the river on a lilo, rubber ring or inflatable settee! Awesome!! We stayed 5 days and loved it. We both had haircuts, we went out for meals, we shopped, we strolled through a high end art exhibition by the river and had coffee in the historic old town complete with its retro cinema and buildings. We rode the trails along the river watching the youngsters of Bend having fun in the sun floating down the river, there is even a bus provided with a trailer on the back to put their floating devices in which takes them back up the river to start again. At every turn of the river we were surprised by something else, beautiful houses and lovely parks with walking trails for young and old.
We visited the High Desert Museum and took in the history of the area which had exhibits of an old saw mill and small village complete with stafff in historic costume playing the role of villagers. We listed to talks about the animals in the area which included close up encounters with live beaver, porcupine, otters and owls and eagles.
This is serious biking country and once again Peter went off on one of his mamouth rides up to the ski resort of Mt Bachelor a 50 miles round trip with a hard ride up but a fantastic descent reaching up to 41 mph and it felt like cycling into a hairdryer it was that hot and that was at 5 p.m.
As each day passes we are totally blown away by Oregon particularly with its wonderful climate and zillion things to do.
