We spent the night after our hike in Great Basin NP at the KOA in the town of Ely. There we were told a hotel/casino would provide free limo rides to and from their location. We were exhausted, but decided we couldn't pass it up. Unfortunately they said a driver wasn't available until 9pm. Instead we were the only guests who enjoyed the kampground's outdoor movie - The Great Outdoors.
The next day we continued North on Hwy 93 and at the border-town of Jackpot we hit a casino. Playing $5 each on the penny slots, I lost all, but Dave won $20! In Idaho we decided to check out Hagerman Fossil Beds NM. The NM was a bit of a disappointment, basically there to preserve the land where a lot of fossils are located, not really for tourist enjoyment. No fossils were seen. Then on to Boise for a second time! Since we were unable to get all dressed up for the wedding, we got all dressed up (definitely all my idea and not Dave's) and went out to Chandler's Steakhouse for dinner and then checked out the nightlife in Boise. At the end of the night we headed to out 'home' conveniently located a few blocks from downtown . . . just has to get up by 8:30 to move it.
From Boise we headed North into the mountains on Hwy 55. Our hot springs book pointed us in the direction of a few East of Cascade. The first one boasted having 8 bath tubs with hoses to fill them. It looks like the tubs had been removed since the book was written. The second location, Molly's Spring, turned out to be PERFECT. With the 2 mile dirt road drive, abandoned road hike, and bushwhacking trail, you would have to know about it to find it. Picture a natural hot tub located 20 feet up a hillside from the river built from rocks and trees that has 2 hoses of hot water fed from a hot spring above. Temperature can be adjusted by moving the hoses or a couple of rocks to let in cool water. After spending the afternoon swimming in a lake, we headed back to the spring again. This time we stayed for probably 4 hours watching the sun set, the stars appear, and looking for shooting stars. When we were complete prunes and I was falling asleep in the perfect water, we reluctantly left. This gem will definitely be revisited again. Best hot spring ever.
