We left Sunriver and headed to Boise. As we were driving we realized two key road-trip items were left behind - the atlas and Quatchi!!! Quatchi could not be replaced but we headed to the next Walmart to get a new atlas. As we drove into Idaho a mild storm passed over with lots of wind, some rain, and some distant lightning strikes! We saw more lightning than we had in the last year... we're hoping to encounter some serious storms on this trip. It started getting seriously hot driving! Dave was down to his boxers and I was glad I brought a skirt along. One sign said it was 99 degrees and we were being extremely conservative with the AC. The heat feels so good though.
While driving I read in the "1000 Places" book of the annual Basque festival that happens in Boise is this weekend! So we drove into Boise and checked it out. Not much really, but pretty cute street and delicious food - chorizo and solomo. And then the traditional drink of Basques - kalimotxo - a mixture of red wine and coca-cola. Not totally sold on it, but it's refreshing. We didn't stay long enough to be there for the evening street dance which sounded really cool. Time to keep going!
We drove up into the mountains toward some hot springs. It started getting late and we were getting pretty tired so we pulled off the road for the night. First night in the RV! After a nice cup of tea we crawled into bed. I slept terribly! 2 people in a double bed with a ceiling about 2 feet up and I was against the side where the ceiling sloped down even more. It'll take some getting used to, but doable. The RV is nice for snacks and lunch, the passenger ca just get up and cook up some food or grab snacks from the fridge.
This morning we got up and drove the remaining few miles to the Kirkham campground just past the town of Lowman. The hot springs along the Payette river are fantastic!!! Lots of pools at varying temperatures and even though there were probably 20 other people there a pool was always available. Nothing like a hot shower pouring off the rocks, a warm bath, and a cold plunge to start off the day!
We're currently at 7,200 ft and heading East on the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway which is beautiful!!!
