Saturday morning was exciting as we met Estelle at Verona train station. She looks well & was very excited to make it due to the strikes by the French airlines. We hear on the news here in Italy Qantas is also on strike.
We did lots if walking with Stelle showing her this beautiful city with all it's history. She loved it! It is so different to Paris & Stelle found it very strange listening to the Italians speak.
It was strange for us teaching Stelle the few basic words we use in Italian rather than her speaking for us as she did in Paris.
We went to the arena & were able to go inside this time. We also went to Romeo's house in the evening. A meal in the piazza with all the locals who gather each evening, ended a great day.
Estelle was up early to look through Juliet's house before it got crowded. We then set off to try & get to the top of a hill on the other side of the river.
Liz & Paul had tried last time unsuccessfully.
We were lucky the archeological museum was open & we found it really interesting, as you can see by some of the photos which date back to the first century. One of the ceiling artworks was painted on wood.
There was also an arena in the museum was only discovered in the 18th century as prior to this it was covered by houses.
The history here is everywhere & we discovered lots more this time. So glad we came for a second look.
We had lunch in the piazza which was very traditional Italian. Today Verona is very busy with locals. Last time we were here during the week & the atmosphere was quite different. Families everywhere out walking, dining & shopping today, which we gather is the norm on the weekends.
The piazza is a real meeting place for all ages & obviously it is an age old tradition to gather there.
We went to the airport to see Stelle off & home for the pasta dinner accompanied by the complementary red wine with the apartment.
Off to Paris tomorrow, we will return here one day!
