We arrived by train Tuesday afternoon in Cortona. Quite funny that we did the research about which station to get off at, emailed the hotel who told us which was best as it would have taxis.
Got off in what seemed like the middle of nowhere & not a taxi in site. No one appeared to speak English however eventually a bus came & took us to the other option for the train station. We stood there waiting a while for a bus which was quite amusing.
Cortona is very quaint. Lots of places to explore & again incredible views across the Tuscan countryside.
We climbed a huge hill to the highest point of Cortona, feeling quite proud of our achievements only to pass an elderly man on his way down with his walking stick most
probably in his 90s!
Yesterday we wandered around all the streets. We just love that around every
corner is a treat with amazing views or a perfect picture opportunity.
We enjoyed a delicious meal of freshly made pasta last night & love having coffee at the locals favourite spots.
Today we went to Arezzo which is much larger than Cortona. Unfortunately we had
our second day of rain since our trip started. We headed back on the bus with the local
school kids which was quite entertaining!
We then had hair cuts. Very nervous seeing lots of hair fall to the ground. I ended
up very short but don't mind the change in style. There wasn't meant to be any change however the hairdresser didn't speak or understand English!
She did have the apprentice translating which makes me understand the changes which
take place with translation!
This evening an antipasto platter at a local deli/bar with great cheap red wine.
Food & wine is so much cheaper in Italy & France than in Tassie. It makes us annoyed that we pay so much & often it is not nearly as fresh as here.
Tomorrow we catch up with friends Marilyn & Stephen who have been living in Italy for the past 10mths. They are from Tassie & it will be great to hear of their experiences.
Friday we head back to gorgeous Verona & Stelle arrives for the w/e.
