Day 39
R and R today, checked out of our room at Glacier Bay Lodge and relaxed in the Lobby for a few hours. My knee is really getting painful, so no hiking today.
Had a nice lunch at the Lodge Dining Room, then boarded our bus, departing for the airport. We are flying back to Juneau on Wings of Alaska, another tiny 5 seater plane. We were the only passengers on the plane, and the pilot was a cool older guy who had retired from flying for UPS.
Made it back to Juneau, our car was still at the airport and our camper was still at the campground, thank goodness!
This evening, we went back out to Steep Creek at Mendenhall Glacier Park to watch the bears.
A young bear was run up a tree by a bigger bear and that little bear started making a sound just like the sound we heard on our hike up Mt. Roberts last Sunday. So we are guessing we must have been pretty close to a baby bear on that hike. It's a good thing we left the area, because mama bear could have been nearby and she might not have been too happy with us.
Back at camp we made a nice grill dinner-sautéed chard, hot dogs and foil-wrapped thinly sliced potatoes and onions, dotted with butter and spices-yum.
