Day 47
Rainy, cold day, wore my fleece vest and rain jacket all day. Our campground, Rivers Edge RV Park has a nice, big, clean laundry room, so I did laundry and Michael took the car for service- oil change, tires rotated, car checked out, etc.
After our chores, we headed to downtown Fairbanks. In a cute little antique shop, Michael found some old Japanese fishing floats, just like some I had seen in Sitka, only these were about a third of the price of the ones in Sitka. I'm glad I didn't buy those. We snapped up a few, here in Fairbanks. They are so pretty, shades of aquamarine, some with net marks still on them. They had washed up on Alaskan shores sometime between the 1940s-1960s.
Next we went to the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race Headquarters to see their resident dog and to learn about this race which occurs in February. Their headquarters is in a very cool historic log cabin with a sod roof. We bought Max a "Lead Dog" collar and leash, so cute.
We then drove around Fairbanks to check out the sights and to scope out 3 places we plan to go tomorrow -
1. University of Alaska (museum)
2. Creamers Field Wildlife Refuge and Nature Trails, which will be hosting the Sandhill Crane Festival
3. Fairbanks Farmers Market
We enjoyed Sushi at Fuji Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar before heading back to camp.
