So just a quick and unorganized recap of whats happend in the last 24hours:
So I was with a group of people and we got lost near our place lol. We were fine but it was kinda of scary getting lost on our first night here! In roppongi of all places which is THEE ONLY dangerous place to be if you are a foreigner. I found a few 100 yen shop ($1 store). I'm going to get school supplies from there if they have any. I'm going to use the atm today but can you call the bank and tell them I'm out of the country. I don't remember if I told them or not. my new pin number is 6 + my division number. I don't want to give that type of info away over the internet. I do have a phone in my room. My room number is 231. ni-san-ichi. Oh the 100 dollar phone deal was just word of mouth. I had orientation yesterday and they scared us alittle bit because roppongi is very very close. They said it was a 15 minute walk....more like 5 or 10. And there have been alot of incidents where foreigners are drugged and robbed of all their money. That includes cash, credit cards maxed out, passport taken, all of that. So we always go places in roppongi in groups. Everywhere else is pretty safe. Like outside roppongi you can drop your wallet and hours later return to find it still there. stealing bikes is considered grand theft auto so HUNDREDS of bikes are left unlock. There is a warehouse of thousands of umbrellas waiting for their owners to come get them. The police are obligated to solve crimes because they have a 99.7 % something rate. Like if there is a crime their job is on the line to solve it. So basically all crimes are solved. I'm trying to figure out if its better to eat out every day or just get groceries. I need a book of japanese dishes because alot of food is written part in katakana (which i can read) and part kanji...which i can't. It makes it very difficult to order as I found out last night. It hasn't hit me yet that I'm in Japan...I'm not overcome by excitement which actually may be a good thing. I'll be able to adjust alot easier because a good percentage of people leave japan early to go home because the home sickness was too much. That won't be me. Maybe because I've traveled alot...even if those places spoke English I observed the culture very well. Maybe because we had a chinatown in chicago which allowed me to step outside my culture and into another so easily. I don't know. The school does excusion trips but the only big one that i want to do is hikone (mt. fuji is there) but its like $200!!! thats out of my price range. I could work here if I wanted to as well but it might be better to just stick to my studes because for every hour spent in the classroom, you spend 3 hours outside the classroom reading and studying. Being late or absent is never accepted or I will fail. THey are very very very very very very very strict when it comes to attendance. I'm confident in my being here...not over-confident but sure enough to take things one step at a time. I don't have to need to buy everything I see because.....well...I don't know what alot of the stuff here is!!! so thats really good. ANother way to send money is by wiring money to me which can take like 5 days but hey...its still an option.
I'm trying to find out more on bike prices because I definitely need a bike. it would say me like $35 to $40 dollars a week on transportation!!! Bikes range in like $100 bracket because its a mode of trasportation.
well I think I'm going to get up now and find some breakfast. I feel like a nomad scavengering for food!! lol The best thing I can do for food options is eat out all the time, cook all the time, or a mix of both and I already know what I could survive on:
milk
bread
cereal
eggs
water
rice
and this thin beef that kinda looks like dark chitlins and tastes like liver...but its not bad. I think I'm going to go out and copy some kanji and words and come back and study them today as well.
