So, Wednesday... the reason for our trip... Belinda Cox's 50th birthday.
The day commenced with yet another wonderful breakfast at the Sunshine Grill, folllowed by a trip to Stingray City. Belinda was very much looking forward to this, Carmen not quite so much. We took a boat ride out to the site and was joined by a South African called Jackie, employed by Deep Blue Images to promote the Cayman Islands scuba diving industry. The site is situated within 4 metres of water, the minimum depth specified by PADI as a 'dive'. Stingrays began appearing pretty much as soon as we entered the water, swiftly followed by a lot more once Jenny, our dive guide, got in with a bucket of squid. She demonstrated the feeding method but we both declined to take part, preferring just to touch the nose and underside of the fish. We were down for around 40 minutes in total, with Carmen getting bored and going off for a little swim and photographic session.
Jackie filmed the event, which will be posted on YouTube at some point.
The morning was followed by two dives, Baxter's Reef and The Doc Paulson. The latter being one of the most picturesque dives experienced by either of us. It consisted of many little coral gardens and was particular photogenic.
We made our way back to Sunshine Suites to be greeted with a bottle of champagne. We consumed this as we dressed for the evening and made our way over to the Calypso Grill at Morgan's Harbour. The food and wine were absolutely to die for, with the wine costing more than both our main meals added together. What an amazing treat. The restaurant also presented us with curtesey champagne cocktails... Mmmmm!
Home to supposedly write our blog, but were both far too exhausted after a day of activity and a fair amout of alcohol.
Happy birthday, Belinda. We all hope you enjoyted your day.
