Graeme round the world
Day 46 Tues 9th May. You may have heard about the Queenstown 'Awesome Foursome' well I decided to make up my own 'Fab Five' #1 Up at 6.30 for helicopter ride through the canyons. The pilot was crazy as he flew low level in between the rocks and at one point turned and dived so sharply that he turned the helicopter virtually upside down, so a great way to start the day :o) #2 Whitewater rafting [the river was 4 degrees], I was at the front and loving it, especially when we hit some grade 4 rapids [5 is the highest] and our guide got flipped out :o) #3 Shotover Jetboat ride through the Shotover Canyans at crazy speeds skimming the rocks on either side with 360 degree spins thrown in for good measure. Freezing water in your face added to the exhilaration. #4 Hangliding, this time launching down a very steep hill into a very strong wind, so a couple of steps and we were airbourne, great view of the mountians and the best bit was I got to fly the hang glider and do some stunts, which was really scary but great fun.............................................................then finally ............................now what was it?????.........#5 Something I have always wanted to do especially in Queenstown New Zealand, it's home town............here's a clue Bungeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Yes I did it and still can't believe I managed to complete my awesome foursome + 1. It was the pinnacle of an amazing day and took everything I had to do it. It is called the ledge, which is at the top of the gondala overlooking Queenstown and the idea is you run and jump off the platform...............well I had two attempts at the running and jumping bit, but it just wasn't working as every sinew of my body was grabbing on for dear life to the railings, so the instructor just asked if I really wanted to do it, which I said yes, so he suggested I just stand on the edge and we could try to do what he said and see whether that would help, that basically entailed me standing on the edge being told to look up at the horizon and then he gently pushing me off....................... Woooooooooooooooooow what a buzz as I hurtled towards the ground in the semi darkness and then bouncing back skyward, when you finally come to a halt you are hauled back up to the platform dangling by the rope rotating round with views high above Queenstown. It felt totally amazing and I was so happy and relieved to have been able to do it, I've got it all on DVD, so you can have a laugh but I think the picture gives you a good idea of what it was like. This is defintely one of the best and bravest things I have ever done and the perfect end to an AWESOME day :o))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
