Grace's Adventures!
Hello Hello Hello!!! Since writing last I have had a fairly full last week of work in the hostel most days, and on the other days in childcare centres, both of which I had been to before which was nice - makes it much easier as I don't have to find it, and I know the staff and kids a little and where things are! On Friday not last week but the week before I was in a babies room all day with only 5 babies it was so cute and very quiet and they were so good so although it was lovely I hardly had anything to do so it was rather boring!! Last Friday I was back in the ABC centre I did a few weeks in in Jan so was nice to see all those kids again and knew exacty what to expect there!
Saturday last week was quite mad - one of Andy's good friends Matty flew into Melbourne from the UK with 2 mates, and we had been in touch by email not long before he left, and I booked them into the hostel where I work! I met them Saturday morning and we arranged to go out that night. In the afternoon I went to the Botanic Gardens again as there was a market on but it wasn't that interesting, so I had a little wander and sat/led/fell asleep by the main lake which was nice! Got woken up by people playing boules right next to me though which wasn't so nice! Sat right next to the lake where people were feeding ducks and all these eels appeared - about 20 of them all slidiing over one another as if there was not much room in the huge lale they were in! Then a little turtle popped his head up now and then - how crazy! Not sure how the turtle got there!! After work Matty and his mates came round and we played the most lethal drinking game ever - 'ring of fire' with Ben and Nittin too. It was so hilarious and I had such fun, but unfortunately the rest of the night was a bit hazy to say the least! Went to a club in Brunswick - meant to be a really good UK hard house night but I really couldn't tell you! Luckily I had the next day off work to sleep it off!
On Wednesday last week I went to the night market just down the road from me and tried kangaroo burger, and a taster of emu sauseage and crocodile tails!!! Very nice I must say - wanted to try the camel too but they had run out! Maybe another time! We also listened to some Turkish music and watched some mad ladies and a hilarious old bloke dancing away! After that we (Ben and Nittin) went round to see Louise a girl B and N met through Iysha, but I had really met yet! Had some cheese and wine and chatted and watched MTV so nice chilled out evening!
Was really hot Thursday so went to the beach at Sandringham again with Kayleigh and Heather from the hostel I work in. The sea was so so warm it was beautiful!!
Had my last day at the hostel on Saturday but am going round there next week when I am back from my road trip to have the free BBQ say hello/goodbye to my boss and to go out with Kayleigh and Heather and 2 other girls that stay there, as they couldnt go out with me Saturday night as they were all working!! Saturday was a good night - didn't go out till 11.30pm! Got a train to Chapel Street (renowned for good bars and clubs) and went to a club called Revolver which is apparantly open 48 hours non-stop all weekend, but I didn't stay that long to find out whether it was true! the music was very funky and there were sofas everywhere - was just such a nice place! Did lots of dancing, met a few random people and called it a night at 4.30am, finishing it all off with a kebab from a stall in the rain! Very British I feel!!
After a nice lie in on Sunday, me Nittin and Louise went to Treasury Gardens in the city as there was a Japanese Festival going on. Saw a bit a martial arts which was pretty cool if not a bit scary (men in masks and body armour hitting each other with wooden sticks making warrior type noises!!!!) Also lots of kareoke, which apparantly is extremely popular in Japan, but I'm sure they could have come up with something a little more traditional than Aussies singing 'Country roads' and 'Let it be'!!! Very bizzare. There was more stuff going on in Fitzroy Gardens next door so we headed over there and grabbed a hot dog, and ended up meeting thi8s nice girl called Sian in the queue, who joined us for the rest of the evening. First there was a dance lesson - 4 girls on stage did African dancing, move by move, and the hundreds of people stood on the grass in front of them (including me, Louise and Sian)copied what they did to the funky Afircan music and words one girl was singing - I can't even get the words out of my head now!! It was so much fun and the music so fab! When that was over, a whole band came on stage and tne dancers stayed on and the music was so brilliant! We carried on dancing - mostly freestylin'!!! But the damcers stayed on and occasionally would get the audiemce to do the dance moves from earlier again - so much fun!! Just loved the way there was so many people up dancing and really getting into it - all ages as well! Had a nice walk back through the park in the dark and went possum spotting - one came so close to me and didn't care that I was taking loads of photos of it!! On the way back on the tram there was a very rude, abusive drunken lady shouting at Asian people - that was a nice end to the evening! There's always crazy people on the tram! I had a blonde/oh help! moment because I was looking at the guy sat opposite her (who showed in no way that he was with her) and making 'oh my god!!' faces, then after a while they started talking, and I felt rather silly! He was obviously very embarressed of her!
Yesterday I got a train to this really nice nature reserve, still in the middle of the city, but it certainly didn't feel like it! It was this stretch of river that was completely unspoilt, so trees all up the banks, grassy areas and loads of birds - it was really beautiful and you could barely hear the traffic at all!
Today I went to the National Gallery of Victoria which was really good (and free!) but did't get round it all so if I get time will probably go back there after my road trip! This evening I went to a hip-hop dance class with Louise which was fun but really hard to follow as it was so fast I was in such a muddle!
Anyhoo, time to go now, I expect you're all glad this postcard isn't as long winded as usual - I think I am learning - finally!! Am planning to go to the Melbourne museum tomorrow, then heading off on my Great Ocean Road and Phillip Island trip on Thursday - should be good! Will write about that when I get get back - bye for now!!
