Grace's Adventures!
Hello again everyone! I can't believe I haven't done a journal for over 2 weeks! Lots to update on (as ever) but nothing as exciting as Tassie or New Zealand or Thailand or anything! I ended up staying the rest of the week in that hostel, which really wasn't that great, even in the girls dorm, as they weren't all that friendly and stayed up late with the lights on, and it turned out that the bar was very close to the room and really noisy, so I slept every night with my earplugs in and eye mask on! But felt knackered every morning!
Sorted out my CV, and went to the recruitment agency specialising in childcare, as thought I could do that what with my year and a bit at Leeson House, and they said I need to get a police name check for Victoria before I do anything! So should have got that sorted before doing anything else! I have been waiting 2 weeks for the police station to call me, as they said it may take that long, but it turns out they had been trying to call me for ages on my old mobile number, even though I rang them and told them my new one! So could have gone in there ages ago with my police clearance, so am a bit annoyed. So in the meantime I thought I should look for other jobs, as they said they probably wouldn't be able to get me full time work, so I went round all the other recruitment agencies, and applied for a few directly as there are signs in shop/cafe windows sometimes. Also I look at this job website every day which had tons of jobs on, but me be me with my blondeness was applying for loads of jobs, mostly by email not realising that you have to have a job seeker ID to apply for them! Then I found out where you can go and get one, but when I got there, they told me I can't apply for one if I am not an Australian resident! So feel like I have been round in circles!
So after getting frustrated and really feeling like I needed to work soon as, I went in an italian chain restaurant across the road from my new hostel (will explain that bit in a minute) to ask if they were still looking for waitresses (someone in my hostel told me they were) and turns out they were, and I had a trial that evening and started the next day! Have worked there loads since, and already had a pay check of $210 and will be more next week, as now have more, set hours! I really don't like it very much, because the guy who runs it is so mean - always yelling at the staff and never smiles, hasn't even spoken to me and has left all the training to his other staff, so I get told different things, when they think of it, so keep finding out new things and that I am doing things wrong and all that sort of thing! And the people there aren't all that friendly either! Some are ok, but I have tried to chat to some and they just don't seem to want to know, and certainly havdn't made me feel very welcome! Some of the girls are nice, mainly the other backpackers, and have met a few/plan to meet them out of work, so it is a good place to meet people. And even though 3 of my shifts are 9 - 10 hours it does go fairly quickly as its' busy most of the day, as it's a really popular place as its' in a good location (right next to the big food and other stuff market) and is a big name in Oz. Also I get free pizza and pasta - twice when I work the double shift! So am saving money on food too! So will stick it out, unless anything comes of the childcare - have got an interview with the recruitment agency now so will continue to update later on! Also I start work on a hostel recpetion desk, checking people in and out and booking tours and helping out with whatever needs doing, next Monday, so will have 2 jobs - still get 2 days off a week - Sunday and Thursday. Am currently working Thursday nights at the pizza place but might ask to jack that one in if the hostel job is good and it seems all too much!!
