Living Situation
Hey, sorry I know I've been slack about posting but things are sooo busy! I'll be posting when I can in sections in order to play catch-up, so I'll begin with where I'm staying. Right now, there is only me and one other volunteer (Fiona, from Glasgow Scotland, who is amazing, and we really "get off well" as she puts it- she leaves on Monday, and I'll miss her terribly!) Then in early Feb, 7 new volunteers are coming from all over so I'm really excited to meet them. Since it's just us 2 right now, were are staying with a wonderful host family - there are 9 (sometimes 10) people living there including us and there are 3 generations of the family - the grandmother, 2 daughters, one of the daughters husbands, their 3 daughters and sometimes a brother comes. It was a little hard at first since they speak little English (some of the family speaks none) but now they have really become like family. They cook wonderful food, including fried chicken (and also some horse, eel, and chicken feet - which eeeh I politely decline : ). The house has 3 bedrooms and 2 floors and has many things that are very rare - a fridge, microwave, and TV. It has electricity that goes out often when the streets flood, as they sometimes do in this district of Saigon. There are many fans, but no a/c, so when the power goes out it can get miserable (one night it was 98.5 degrees in my room). they have 2 tiny dogs and one of them is a Maltese!!! Whenever I miss Sugar I play with Mini :) We also have geckos and quite a few tiny mice (not pets, they just let themselves in)- I don't mind either, they're pretty cute. So yea, I really love being in the house, and though I'm curious about the dorm, I'll be sad to leave!
