Snorkeling in the rift between the tectonic plates of Eurasia and North America
Thingvellir, Iceland
It is really great to see everyone´s comments. Deborah, you definitely would have loved the hike.
Today I did a tour where we snorkled in a dry suit in 2 C water in the rift between the two tetonic plates, which is what has created Iceland - as the plates pull apart an average of 2.5 / year then Iceland grows wider. The water seeps underwater from a glacier for about 50 - 60 years then comes out in the area we snorkled, so it was very clean and clear (and cold).
We then did a hike in a lava tube, a cave that is created when the lava was flowing and the top part cooled off first but the hotter lava underneath continued to flow out leaving an empty tube with some really neat lava formations.
My old knees were complaining from all the scrambling up and over rocks while trying to avoid hitting our head on the ceiling. But on the bright side, my blisters are healing! Oh well, tomorrow I can take it easy.

Dianne Z Take it easy on those old knees! Remember you have a couple years of travel ahead of you that will require that they still work :)
Terry Z You go girl but do take care of you! Inspiring to hear what you are up to.
Marian M Really interesting stuff.take care of yourself.
Ishrat Wow Cheryl, beautiful scenery, adventurours and scary hikes - 55 km in a few days, majestic architecture of that church and very interesting terrain. Great to see Iceland through your eyes. You are certainly not taking it easy but looks like enjoying your adventure. Take Care. Love your blog.
