Got back yesterday from a 5 day trip, 3 days were spent walking a total of 55 km, which were long days and a stenuous hike with lots of up and down, wading across freezing cold rivers (one river was up to our thighs). When you actually pitch your tent right on the lava ash, you feel like you are really seeing Iceland close up. We had good weather (for Iceland) and saw some awesome scenery. We did it from from Þórsmörk to Landmannalaugar which is south to north, the opposite of what they show on the web page, which we all decided was the better way. On the last day as we were relaxing and eating bacon and eggs, we watched a new group heading out in the rain and wind and cold, and were really, really glad it was them and not us.
Our guide was Gulli, who is the one shown on the video at this site, on the top right just below the blue 'Book this Tour' button. So along with Suggi who was a chef in a prior career to make our meals, we were treated very well.

I got blisters from my rental boots so I am just taking it easy today, spending time in the internet cafe (where every other screen around me has someone playing a game where they are shooting a gun) and relaxing.
