Now on train to Washington DC. 7 hour journey in comfortable Amtrak train.
Had a bit of a battle lugging my luggage with 2 changes on the subway.
Right now we are travelling alongside the beaches and bays of Connecticut all so beautiful with the autumnal colours.
Was sad to hear that Derek 'Dribble' d*** on had passed away. Seems we are not indestructible after all.
Arrived Washington DC around 5.30pm and took a taxi to Columbia Heights where I had booked a room with Fadi.
The taxi driver was Ethiopian and we chatted about Ethiopia. He told me that there were about 100,000 Ethiopians in Washington. Such a nice fellow. He turned off the meter when we were stuck in a jam and he refused to accept a tip.
Fadi has a small flat but lavishly furnished. He showed e into this fabulous bedroom with such a comfortable bed as shown in the pictures.
He went out and then I went out to get something to eat. Had real trouble finding my way out of the building.
Found a great place to eat. They have a selection of things which they pile on top of rice or whatever. Delicious and reasonably price until you find you pay tax on above the quoted price.
Wandered around a bit and went back to the flat. Fadi wasn't there but his friend Adriano was trying to cook a meal but didn't seem to know what he was doing although he was strictly organic and fussy. Really he was easy to chat with.
I was dog tired but went to buy a trolley tour ticket online and then became bogged down with trying to fix my emails. Since arriving in America I haven't been able to send emails with my IPhone. Luckily my Kindle worked ok. Earlier I had gone to phone shop and the girl reckoned she could put a SIM card in the IPhone but it didn't work. She then gave me the sim that would have been wasted to put in my old Nokia. I don't think it will work anyway but it was nice of her. However I found the next day she had put on the cellular data which will cost me.
