The Howler monkeys provided us with a great screaming wake up call this morning, so we were already in jungle mode before we got out of bed.
We had a huge buffet breakfast with all the extras and then headed out with our guide Marco to explore more of this incredible rainforest. We saw a handful of awesome trees, all used by the native amazonians for a range of things, including food, communication and culture. Marco then threw us all in a tiny canoe and we paddled up the river looking for wildlife. A Tucan flew past, and we saw loads of monkeys swinging from the trees, it was just how I'd pictured the amazon to be! After a half hour break up a watch tower, we headed back. On the way, Marco found a tarantula next and managed to get it to come out, amazingly luring it with a piece of grass with his spit on it. This thing was hairy and black and the size of my hand. I immediately thought about the dozens of tarantulas around our huts and felt a bit ill!
I spent the rest of the day eating tropical fruit in a hammock over looking the river...absolute bliss! If it weren't for the malaria ridden mossies, this place would be paradise. Dinner was another delicious buffet, and of course followed by some jungle cocktails and pool.
