After breakfast, we took one last look around Potosi, before catching a lowered, big muffler taxi to the new bus terminal (these ridiculous attempts to look like a boy racer are extremely common, even in taxis, some of them even say "i love w****s" on the back window).
It only took 3 hours to get to Sucre by bus, and I instantly fell in love with this place. It is very european, and was the home of alot of royalty, who came from europe to mine Potosi, but liked the climate here better. It is full of old churches and the main plaza is right up there with cities like Cusco which are 10 times the size.
As soon as we arrived at our amazing hotel - Independencia, we met up with a local lady Nala, who offered us a few tours around Sucre. She also runs a local orphanage, so I asked if I could go along with her for the afternoon to meet the children and give the workers a few hours free. She was grateful for this, so we took off. As soon as I walked into the room with about 20 children, I was overwhelmed by about 10 kids who grabbed onto me calling me "mummy". They were all between the age of 2-5 and all seemed to know what to do if a stranger walked into the room. It was so sad to see such beautiful children all who were unwanted. That being said, the orphanage was really nice, they all had good clothes on and were all well fed. We went into a room with a stereo and the children showed me where the dress up closet was, and set about getting dressed up in dresses and costumes and dancing around to latin american music. They all seemed very happy, and were all getting along with each other pretty well. One chap in particular seemed to hang around me for the entire duration, he kept climbing all over me and he was such a lovely kid. His name was Alex, we got along great, until he full on sneezed right into my mouth. With a mouthful of Alex´s snot and spit, we went outside to play on the playground for another hour until it was time for me to head home. I gave 200 bolivianos (the equivalent of $40nz) to the nuns who run the show and they said that that much money would feed the entire orphanage for a couple of months. Warm fuzzies.
It was then time for dinner, so we headed out to a dutch restaurant called Florin, for the tastiest meal I´ve had in a while, and a ridiculously huge jug of beer between Manda and myself. We then headed out to the happening place in Sucre - Joyride, for a considerable amount of alcohol and some dancing. One poor b****** got stuck with me trying to learn salsa, I´m pretty sure he rued the day he ever agreed to dance salsa with a kiwi! Still, I learnt alot, so sucko to him. At 2am, it was time to head home, so I could explore more of Sucre tomorrow.
