THE AMAZON!!
So the day begun with us getting a flight to Puerto Maldonaldo…Cuzco Airport is AWFUL out of the 5 gates in the entire airport wewere directed to 4 of them, we had to run, no one knew what was going on, it was a slight nightmare…but after a long delay we were on our way. We were greeted by Christian our tour guide who was such a sweetheart! We went to the tour office and met the two other girls on our tour who were really nice and got on a boat up the Amazon 3 hours to The Explorers Inn which was literally in the middle of the National Reserve. We stayed in huts with no electricity…everything was from the rainforest it was so natural…a nice break! That night we enjoyed a boat ride up the river in the dark on the hunt for caimans (alligators) and saw 3, which was really exciting… and enjoyed a silent meditation in the middle of the river with thre boat floating downstream. That night we had our first Amazon dinner which was meat and rice, very nice!
The next morning Christian woke us up at 4.30AM!! And we began our trek at 5am to Cocohanya lake which was a very hard, long walk through mud swamps and small slippery paths! We arrived there all very hot and bitten alive and went on a boat ride and saw otters playing in the river which was amazing…one started blowing raspberries at us as he felt threatened by us! We then walked back which was even harder and along the way saw a lot of wildlife and Christian kept trying to make us try leaves and bits of wood!
We then had a chill out time and that evening we went on a night trek which was really scary…pitch black with just the light of our torches to guide us! We saw snakes and many our birds and insects, he also made us turn off our torches in the middle and have meditation time which was amazing! You looked up through the trees to see the brightest stars which were amazing…definitely a moment from the Jungle!
The next morning we were up early again and went to see a claylick which is where birds gather to lick clay basically, quite interesting although we got slightly bored after 10 minutes! That afternoon we went and visited a fruit farm where they harvest all of their produce and saw snakes crawling through! The evening we went in search of tarantulas which were massive and enjoyed our last nights sleep under our mosquito nets, listening to the jungle sounds knowing tomorrow morning we were back to reality!
We left today and we were quite sad to go, it was a really great experience and we really liked and wanted to help Christian who was so excited by our excitement and just loves wildlife, just shows there is more to life! We then got a flight to Lima and headed to a hostel recommended in Milaflores again…so that is where I am now and looking forward to heading to Salvador (Brazil) tomorrow afternoon!
Love to all,
Georgia
