So, from my last blog the journey to Cuzco was somewhat petrifying! The drivers here are absolutely crazy andwe were really unsure what our journey was going to uncover getting nearer to Cuzco…but we arrived safe at 6AM and weren't able to check in until 2PM so as it was Lucys birthday andthe day before was Australia Day wheneveryone gotback we started drinking with some Aussies! We then explored the town which reminded us a lot of Prague…very picturesque squares with amazing views of mountains in the backdrop. That night we went toa restaurant called The Fallen Angel which was amazing…we dined arounda bath tub filled with fish with a glass top, and ate great food…we then continued back to the hostel as we couldn't find anywhere else and started tofeel slightly unsafe and partied there!
The next day we met our room mates, four American girls who invited us to come on a trek with them, we thought how hard can it be?! We were hiking through very steep, mountainous terrain which was very hard but when we reached the Moon Temple it was great, such amazing views and some Inca men came and met us and explained all about the Incan Empire, gave us a bracelet which keeps us safe and a necklace symbolising Cuzco! We head back and went out that night on a Pub Crawl with our hostel which was an amazing night…best in a long time! However, the next morning we had to be up and out at 8AM and as we got in at 6AM only Reanne and I made it! We went and visited archaeological ruins and saw the Sacred Valley which had just been reopened after the flooding…we also saw helicopters going backwards and forwards bringing people back who were trapped at Macchu Pichu… was really great to see!
We went out again that night with some American guys and one Aussie who we met who were really nice! Had another great night starting with International drinking card games…we got to lie in the next day and explore Cuzco and sort out the Amazon Jungle…we figured if we don't get to do Macchu Pichu we needed another expedition! We went out again that night to leave Cuzco with a bang and really enjoyed it…one of our favourite places! Lots of stray dogs and young children trying to snatch your bags…but with your wits about you, a large group and an open mind it's a fantastic place!
