Venice.....after a 22 hour train ride.....I smelled and felt gross. I walked out of the train station with a Greek girl named Elaine and could not ignore the beauty of Venice. It was 7am and it was still beautiful. The water was full of boats and the streets barely full. It looked so nice and calm, yet it made me want to go swimming. We took a boat ride to St. Marks which took us along the Grand cannal. I enjoyed seeing buildings literally with water almost in them. I wondered about how they dealt with flooding or water, but no urge to ask someone.
I spent the first part of the morning at the St. Mark's square. It was completely empty except birds.
Then I went to St. Mark's Bascilllica. It was a LONG line. It took so long to actually see the church, but it was worth it. The church had some amazing images and the floor looked like spiral circles.
After St. mark's I went to the Gallerie dell accademie which I thought had Michaelangeos david but it did not. It had 15th century art from Venecians. It was basically an entire museum of Christ and the Madonna. I did not stay very long and spent the rest of my day shopping.
I love the styles here. Everything/Everyone looks really nice. I want to buy everything but can afford nothing, so I decided to sit and just watch the water until I was pooped on by a bird. I took that as a sign it was time to end my day in the expensive venice by walking to the train station to head to Florence.
