First day in Rome....
I get there earlier enough and then get lost when getting to my hostel. I run into some guy that tries to help...he works for Lets Go Europe in the Rome section. I am not how good the section will be since he could not really help. Then I find the Hostel. I go to the 6th floor and find out that they only accept cash(no credit cards), so I freak out. I dont have 80 euro cash on me. I tell the guy to cancel my reservation. He informs me that he can still charge me for the night....the odd part is that HE DOES NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS. I leave very angry and head to the first internet cafe I find which was supposed to be right near the train station. I get there and this italian guy, who works for tourist information, walks up to me and asks if I need help. I am like no. Then I tell him my situation and he informs me that MOST hostels do not accept credit cards in Rome. I was so upset. He tells me he knows a cheap hotel in the area that accepts credit cards. I am like ok...this is a good area. I get to the hotel and its not a bad hotel (except they dont give me breakfast). I have a safe place to stay now, BUT its expensive in my world......so I ignore that and decided to explore Rome.
I walked around a bit till I found the spanish steps AND by accident the Pantheon which as it turns out......was some church and I didnt realize it was the Pantheon till today. I got to see some little kids singing the Pantheon. The pantheon was converted into a church
I woke up early and took a long walk around Rome. I went to the Vatican City and into St. Peter's church. I got there and apparently there is a rule that states you must have shorts down by your knees or else you cannot get in. My shorts were almost long enough, so before I went into church....I gangsta styled it and lowered my shorts so I could go to church (the guards were laughing). It was huge and different from the rest because it had statues of Popes......AND there was like 5 masses and confessions going on at the same time. It was kinda cool. The next stop was the sistine chapel. It is like a maze trying to get there....you go down a flight of stairs, then through a tunnel, then through modern christian art, then through this other tunnel. When you finally get to the bottom it is full (completely full) of tourist. IT was crazy. You are not allowed to take pictures in the chapel and the guards working would say, "no photos, no video" every like 2 minutes. The painting done by michelangelo was really cool. It felt like some of the people were popping out. The ceiling looks a little run down, but hey I would be too if I was that old.
Next, I had the BEST and BIGGEST gelati ever. IT was only 2 euro and I loved it. It was amazing.........
I went from the Vatican City to Piazza Navona where I put my feet in the fountain and if I had money would be allowed to buy paintings there. I really enjoyed putting my feet in water.....it fixed my urge for a beach (for a couple hours).
I wanted to do a little bit of shopping at the Piazza Campo de Fiori....but it was food and I have no kitchen.....so back to the big stuff.
The colesseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill.......the colesseum had men from gladiator out taking pictures with tourist. I could not tell the difference between Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.....but both were really cool and surprisingly intact. What shocked me most about these sights is that they are in the center of town. I mean it was so important to the Italians that even today it is still standing......after hundreds of years and battles after battles.....its still there. After a long day, I ended up falling asleep in the colesseum.....opps....good thing no one woke me :)
The last thing I saw in rome was the Trevi Fountain. It is, in my opinion, hard to find and not really that amazing. It was just one of the larger fountains.
