George's World Travels
We've made it down to Airlie, the gateway to sailing the Whitsundays. This afternoon we'll board our ship, the Dream Catcher for 2 days of exploring islands, snorkelling and hopefully sunbathing. Keep your fingers crossed that the group of people on our boat are nicer than in Darwin!
So far we've been to Mission Beach and Magnetic Island. The former was wonderful. We stayed at a place called the Sanctuary, amongst the rainforest. Gorgeous. So relaxing. They host yoga retreats there, which really sums up the place. so quiet and peaceful. The towns claim to fame is their native bird, the cassowary, which M was desperate to see. They have about 6 of the birds roaming aorund the grounds of the Sanctuary. Sadly, despite much searching we didnt see one. This is still a very sore point with M, and the only consolation is that there are also a few up in Cape Tribulation, where we're going on our last few days in Oz. Please everyone pray we see one, as my life is not worth living otherwise!
Magnetic Island was ok, but quite hard work getting to, what with the bus to the ferry (from Townsville) then waiting around for the ferry, the 30 min journey then the bus to the hostel. Given we were only there a day, it was a bit frustrating. Am glad we saw it, and the hostel was right on the beach which is cool, but I think maybe our time would have been better spent in Mission for another day. But we weren't to know. I think we were just really lucky to be able to stay at the sanctuary. I'd definately like to go back one day, for longer.
This is on kind of a tangent but for those who have read the Celestine Prophecy and the Tenth Insight (for those of u who havent do!) the Sanctuary and the surrounding national park rainforest was like the places those books describe. Of a place with loads of energy. Where everything looks so beautiful. READ THE BOOKS! I know at least Soph understands what Im talking about.
Anyhoo... we're off sailing soon so had better go,
hope everyones having a good summer and enjoying the rain, haha!
