George's World Travels
hi again!
so melbourne.... first thing you should know its pronounced 'melbun' and all locals are very touchy about it!
we've been here since we flew out from christchurch on 2nd july. Fortunately for us, soph had a friend out heer, fran, who we've been able to stay with for this whole time! Great to be in a home again and also has saved us so much money! Her parents, Pricilla and Robin have been really friendly too, really welcoming which has been lovely.
Fran took us to Philip Island during the week to see the 'panguin parade'. This consists of groups of small penguins swimming up to shore, just after the suns set, and afetr huddling together make a dash (well as much of a dash as waddling penguins can make) across the sand - as they are very vunerable to predators at this point, no camoflage, to the grassy banks beyond the sand, where their burrows are. Was so sweet to see. Have never seen wild penguins before. Also was able to get very close to them so that was really cool.
Yesterday we had another outing when Robin took us to some of the Great Ocean Road, up to Lorne. We didnt see the 12 apostles, but as the biggest of the remaining ones has now fallen down, did you hear about that back in UK? Its not such a must see. Had a lovely picnic and then went on some walks around the bay and in the nearby forest.
I have to say though, sadly, Neighbours night was the highlight of melbourne. To be fair the show is the reason most backpackers come here!! Was so cool to meet Boyd, Toadie and Harold. Out of this world. Got some great pics, strangely they dont seem to be able to enlrge on this website, but Ms develoed the best ones for safe keeping anyway. The one with us, Harold and chilli is a classic!
We also went on a tour of Ramsey St, is was smaller than you imagine, and went to Erinsborough High. Pretty cool. We've blown a huge amount of money on Neighbours merchandise, but we expected thatd happen. Neighbours is worth it.
Myles and I both really like Melbourne. Like we've been told its a very livable city. It hasnt got the icons that Sydney has (btw theres BIG rivalry between the two cities!) but is beautiful. Like the closer you get into the city centre, the greener it gets! Theres so many parks everywhere. And the roads are really wide, you get a big sense of space.
Tomorrow we're off to Uluru for 5 days then onto Drawin to see all the National Parks.
To wrap this up Ill ruin a few Neighbours story lines for you....
Lil leaves David for Paul.
Paul is pushed off a cliff and has to have his leg amputated!
Darcy comes back. Blackmails Izzy (he knows the truth about Izzy's baby). He then leaves a letter for Susan telling her everthing.
Steph and Max find a baby to adopt. But Boyd falls for the natural mother (a teenager, Kayla) and decides he'll help Kayla raise the baby as thiers instead!
Soon all the Bishops, bar Harold, will leave the show.
K, think thats enough for now!
