Epically hungover today - ow ow ow. Rolled out of bed and headed off to meet Sarah at the Sagrada Familia - nental note : looking at churches = very poor choice of hangover activity. Had massive fail situation at metro when we had to run up the stairs to get train - I jumped on just as the doors were about to close and looking behind me couldn't see the others so quickly jumped back off.....turns out they'd got on the other door and the train left without me! :( Situation went from bad (but quite funny) to worse when I went to get a drink from the vending machine with my last coin. Unfortunately vending machine had other ideas and spat my money out onto the platform where it rolled off the edge onto the tracks! Didn't know whether to laugh or cry! Finally made it to the Sagrada Familia to catch up with the others where it was decided a hangover remedy (Maccas) was desperately needed. Checked out some more Gaudi stuff on the way back into town, looks very put of place in the middle of normal buildings! Met Sarah for dinner at 'la quinze nits' - apparantly a well known restaurant but cheap because the city funds it. Spain has 72 festivals throughout the year so not surprisingly there was one in Barcelona at the moment - the Gracia Festival (prob not it's Spanish name!) so caught the train out to check it out. All the streets were decorated and bands were playing everywhere but most exciting was the human pyramid building competition! Absolutely crazy, you'll have to see the photos but it wasn't your normal three level kneeling on each others backs pyramid as we were expecting....they were standing on each others shoulders, with the biggest one we saw 6 people high. At the end a little kid with a crash helmet (one of them was about 3 years old) would climb to the very top and raise their hand. One of the coolest things we've seen!
Still not feeling flash (have since worked out it was the water me and Aim had been drinking) were heading back to the train when we were sidetracked by the sound of fireworks. Following the sounds, came across a bit of a parade and some people lighting fireworks on a giant dragon...thinking it would follow the parade around the corner we just stood there, dragon did not go around corner. Instead charged straight at us, fireworks blazing! Almost wet ourselves.
