Croseo y ynys echni ..
Welcome to flatholm...
Before we even left the mainland we had lots of water bottles to fill up due to the dire water situation on the island (the Victorian water tank didn't fill up due to the dry winter) From the tap in harbour authority it takes 1.43min to fill up a ten litre bottle! (yes I was standing there a long time) two hours later we were ready to set sail with a group of visitors from a local college studying a nvq in animal care luckily for me it was a calm day and all seasickness was averted!
When we got here the main priority was unload passengers then unload the boat which involves a lot of carrying of heavy stuff up the jetty and onto the island up steps which are like the steps after sgwd yr eira at the ystradfellte waterfalls, tiring! Luckily for us the crane was in use and we managed to get some stuff up using the crane.
We spends some more time moving cement bags ready to go off the islands and moving lots of wooden planks!
At some point in between this we managed to unpack! But luckily for us the whole day the sun was
Shining beautifully! And some people even managed to burn... Gemma Bowcock (for now there is two Gemma's confusing :s)
For evening meal Ross (assistant education warden) cooked us a beautiful roast pork dinner and we had cake for dessert! One of the last season volunteers left today! And she missed this dinner! We had cake for Sam (it was his birthday 39today!) Woo.
Happy first day! Here's to the next 5months and 29days :)
