Day 2 in the flatholm house!
Lot of vols are going off the island today some permanently and some for the week! And we haven't had all this seasons vols on yet so we're left down to four vey the end of the day!
Before they left I had duty this morning (which means getting up early) doing essential farmhouse checks and feeding the animals ... Sheep, chickens and ducks! Then we went on thdunked walk to note what we see, It was touch and go as to weather the boat would turn due to the high winds! And after seeing the boat arriving I was glad I wasn't the one leaving the island today!
When the boat did get here we had lots if of shiny new tools to get off which was great including a really cool blue shovel! But it did mean the daily relay race up and down the jetty! Me and sarah(new vols with me) learnt how to use the crane which meant we didn't have to carry them up the steps and looked cool in hard hats and steelies (steal toe cap shoes)
Once we had managed to get all the kit into roughly the right place, we went and done a vegetation survey, which wasn't what I was used to despite spending 3 weeks doing one, it meant using my map skills (yay) I also climbed a ladder those who know my fear of heights should beoud and stood on top of the foghorn station to do the survey we took pictures from different points so they can be compared.
Then it was tea time.. And being on duty it was my turn to cook, but there is limited stock at the moment, Ross has gone off to shop but doesn't return until monday, so we cooked up pasta with a tomato like sauce and random veg, but Sam who used to be a chef said it was good so job done!
For the evening we watched fantastic mr fox in the living room with the four of us and bed by 11 :)
