Now we are on the train to Prague after having started the day in Sazburg and changing trains in Linz. A surprise detour with the need to get off the second train after 12 minutes and catch a bus for around 30 minutes. This was due to track work resulting from the recent floods. Don' t know where we went but it was a nice side trip.
So around 4 hours to Prague so time to catch up on the last couple of days in Salzburg. Salzburg followed on like Lucerne as a welcome respite from the more hectic major cities that we visited first. Our second day was spent with a lazy morning around the hotel then a bus trip out to St Gilgens where we joined a ferry for a cruise down the lake to St Wolfgang. The cruise was most enjoyable enhanced by a nice cold Austrian beer and then off at St. Wolfgang. A very pretty Austrian Berrima. We had 50 minutes to walk around this very charming tourist town. All in all a great trip to enjoy the Vista of an Austrian Lake and very relaxing despite being touristy.
Yesterday we had a completely free day spending some time shopping for shoes in a stylish shopping area then back across the river and up the furnicular railway to Salzburg Fortress. Great views and easy to see why this was picked as a Bastion. Amazing the power of the Church to be running the place for so many years. Cannot imagine it today.
Down the furnicular again and a walk to the Sacher Hotel to sit in the riverside cafe and sample a piece of the famous cake. Ket is now appointed the diet policewoman and I was allowed a spoonful. Her cake disappeared quite quickly so it must have been good.
Home for a quick break. Finally the pool re opened at the hotel and I was able to have a good 30 minute swim with my swimming strap which was very necessary in a pool you could just about do a jump over from end to end without getting wet.
In the evening we went to the Stiftskeller St Peters for a Mozart dinner concert. It was held in a candlelit ballroom and the players were in period costume adding to the total effect. We shared the company on our table of Rick a retired dentist from the USA who was much travelled and very good company.
Then home to pack and some very anxious moments for Ket when she could not locate her passport which had cleverly tucked itself into a crevice on the side of the in room safe. All is well that tends weel and off to sleep to get ready for Prague.
