Lucky to arrive in Salzburg after our second train near miss. Anyway if you are supposed to change trains at Zurich the first step is to get off the first train at Zurich...which we did not do. Problem solved by more good luck than good management when we were able to go back one staton and change back. All solved in around 8 anxious minutes and a quick dash up 100 stairs to change platforms with around 30kg in each hand. Thanks to the gym at Tatts.. I did not have a heart attack.
We arrived in Salzburg and went in search of authentic Austrian Thai food but having skillfully navigated to the Bangkok restaraunt .. it was closed. Ket was amazed to see me navigate our way with a good old map....no GPS or Google maps... Anyway we found a good curry opposite the hotel and hit the bed early.
Our first day in Salzburg was a gem. We started off with a walking tour with Eric who was wearing traditional Austrian shorts... a little like khaki Aussie rules shorts wiht braces. Not really a great look. The Americans on the tour could not understand him even though they have had the benefit of Arnie for years.
The tour was just fantastic walking through the Mirrabell gardens over the bridge, seeing various dwellings associated wiht Mozart and finally St Peters. A really great tour. We could never have seen so much in 2 hours on our own.
Finally we had lunch at the Stigl beer garden with spectacular views over the city. A bit of a shop then back to hte hotel after some purchases at the Red Bull shop.
