Hey all,
Can´t believe a week has gone already!
Spent the first part in mexico city. Finally got to see Lucha Libre in Mexico City. It was an experience of a life time. Absolutely amazing. Went with 10 girls and 2 guys - and against all reason it was the girls who were making the most noise cheering, goading and generally abusing anyone who had the missfortune to sit near us. Being mexico though everyone took it in good hummour!
Also went quad biking in the hills and was even convinced to get onto a horse for a short horse ride. I deeply misstrust horses. I put them into a catagory populated by dolphins and ducks as animals which really should not be trusted. True to form no sooner was I on my horse then it deposited its own GIANT portion of refried beans!!! Speaking of which:
BEANWATCH UPDATE - I managed 3 days! Then on ordering a Sope con Pollo I was treated to a hidden cache of the evil brown stuff hidden beneath chicken, cheese and salsa verde. Oh well. And I think it was the brown tip of the brown iceberg as they have been forced upon me ever since. Irasema has now realised it is very amusing to her to ask the waitorswaitresses for extra portions of it just to tease me! Oh well.
Headed out of MC on Saturday with Ira and her daughter Carolina. We took a bus out to a place called guanjuato. A touristly small colonial town in the hills 5 hours from MC. The cituy was pretty cool. it has 20 KM of underground road systems. Unfortunately all the roads are cobbled and the pavements prob only 12 m wide. This combined with the fact that the town was celebrating independance which meant the streets were packed. Not the best conditions for a push chair for the baby! The town itself is important to Mexicans as it is where they signed the declaration of their independance in 1810. While we were there they had a parade to celebrate this involving marching bands from all the local schools, local armed forces, police, ambulances, fire engines, statemens and chorros (land owners - like cowboys on horses). The town itself was pretty amazing to see.
After that we took a tour van to San Miguel - making stops along the way. First stop was at 11am and it was for breakfeast Mezcal and tequilla. Now not sure how many of you know what Mezcal is. I have a feeling Phil does. Well I decided to have 5 shots for breakfeast. Suffice to say the rest of the day was........interesting! The other stops were Dolores (small town where they actually started the war of indepence - and coicidentaly where i did something very bad in their public toilets) and then onto Atotonilco where we saw a very old church. Finally onto San Miguel where they were celebrating the fiesta of Saint Michael. We caught the finale which was a dance of Pueblo indians - who then lead a parade taking out the image of Saint michael. It ended with a traditional mexican fireworks display which was out of this world. Also the fireworks scared the bejesus out of carolina much to my delight as she was being a pain in the arse this day!
Next day we checked out the town. The weather in all these places was blue sky, yellow sun and about 30° and the town is on a small hill with the most amazing rolling hills. I took some pictures but cant do justice to the beauty of the place. It is very popular with Americans and French as an artist retreat for this reason. It was here I decided to grow a chopper style moustache beard thing for a laugh.
In the evening we caught a first class bus back to MC. These buses are awesome. They even have a small cafe in the back!
Well today we are going to check out the "little venice" of MC as it is quite sunny here as well!
