After a crappy night sleep caused by the snoring Irish guy, it was time for a fun filled day in San Francisco. We started the morning with a visit to a camera shop as I need to get a replacement because I have loads of crap in my camera lens. I found one pretty much the same for a reasonable price. We headed town to the bay and walks long all the piers until we reached Fisherman's Wharf. Famous for its sea food - we decided to grab a bite to eat and it wasn't bad. I just had battered fish and chips. It was very fresh. While we were eating our food, we had the view of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz island. It was sunny with blue skies. We continued to walk along pair 39 and started to smell smoothing really bad. It was like rotting fish. It was in fact at least 50 Sea Lions, they smelt so bad. They were just laying in the sun, maybe that's why the smell was so bad.
We actually stayed there and watched them for ages as they were fighting, playing, and just enjoying life. They would climb over one another trying to get into the centre of the platform so they didn't run the risk of falling into the water! While walking around Chris also had a crab cocktail, it was just a small pot with fresh crab meat, oh and a bit of shell. Ha ha, I asked if it was nice, to which Chris replied "it tastes like the sea!" Lol
We walked around a few of the shops and got a few souvenirs before getting on the San Francisco Trolley, it was "world famous" like everything else in the USA. It was bloody expensive, and we didn't even get one of the outside seats, or hang off the trolley like you see them do in the movies.
The tram took us up and over he hills in the city, there is a lot of them. We headed back to the hostel to drop some stuff off before meeting up with my Thailand tour buddy! Edelyn!
At 2pm we had planned to meet Edelyn at union square on the corner of Geary. It was just before 2 and as we came to the crossing I could see Edelyn with her crutches! Hoping down the road, it was really nice to see her and catch up, Edelyn is honestly one of the nicest people and has a very infectious laugh! I actually think that we just laughed all day.
We had a bit of a laugh when Edelyn was telling us how she had damaged her heal when jumping for an action photo shot! That we had done a lot of while in Asia.
We took the easy option and jumped into a cab and rode it to the Golden Gate Bridge. It really is massive and one of the best views, made even more perfect with the sun shining. Edelyn took a seat while me and Chris done the tourist bit and walked a quarter of the way up the bridge. Got some pretty good pictures. And it was one of the landmarks I was looking forward to seeing!
Edelyn's friend Jason bunked off work and decided to come play tourist with us. He was kind enough to pick us up from the Golden Gate Bridge and drive us around. Giving us the opportunity to actually take a ride over the bridge. Our first stop was to the small town of Sausalito. It was beautiful, with great view over San Francisco, we found a small wine tasting place. It was really nice, we tried a couple of whites and reds serviced with a nice cheese board. Not sure edelyn should have been operating her crutches after a drink, I'm sure she nearly went over a couple of times! The four of us the headed to the Marin Headlands with more great views of the city. Also we saw wildlife. Deers running around. Sadly no squires. (Black, red or grey!) we just all laughed the entire day. Jason drove us around some more landmarks of San Fran, including Lombard street which was cool, this is the zig zag road that's in all the movies! Managed to get a picture!
It had been about 30 minutes and Edelyn needed another drink! In fact we all like the idea of hitting the Belgium pub, it was a basement bar. I gave Edelyn a piggyback ride down the stairs! Of course she was screaming all the way down. I had cherry beer, my favourite! It didn't end at one. It was really nice! When it was time to lift edelyn back up the stairs she decided it was a better idea to grab the railings - maybe she thought I was a little pissed now! Except it pulled me to one side of the spiral staircase nearly causing me to drop her!
We took a cab 4 blocks up the road, to an Italian restaurant. I can't honestly say it was one of the nicest meals I have had in the trip. The laughter continued I was explaining what Thai ping-pong was, and everyone was in fits of laughter, I dread to think what the people next to us was thinking! It was a really great night, amazing food, great people and funny conversations!!
It was time to say goodbye to Edelyn and Jason, and me and Chris headed back to the hostel via a couple of bars for a beer - it was so nice to catch up with Edelyn, and I look forward to returning to San Francisco sometime soon!
