Today we travelled from Venice to Rome via the Apennine mountains.. We met our local guide Ziggy and then walked to the Vatican, saw the amazing artwork collected and commissioned by the Popes. Visited the tapestry gallery and gallery of maps before making our way to the Sistine chapel, which was breathtaking and made me quite emotional looking at Michelangelo's masterpiece. Then it was on to St Peters Basilica, which was just impressive on size, let alone Michelangelos Pieta sculpture.
The Pantheon was next, the temple to all the Gods of Ancient Rome, and it completely amazes me how they made such large structures, with such beautiful materials and these buildings are still standing today. The Pantheon has the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome.
Time for a stroll to Piazza Navona to eat at a cafe but not before watching locals break dance in the square and the kids played with these flying spinning top toys. Walked through the square and viewed local artists work.
