The Rome Marathon was on this morning and the town was on shut down for the morning, so it was off to Ostia Antica on the Mediterranean coast to see the excavations of Ancient Ostia and see how the ancient Romans lived. Remains of baths, theatres, houses, drinking rooms with mosaic floors have been excavated.The city is mirrored with Umbrella Pines and Cypress Trees.Back into Rome and back to the Vatican to see the Pope and to hear his blessing, quite an amazing ...

Today we travelled from Venice to Rome via the Apennine mountains.. We met our local guide Ziggy and then walked to the Vatican, saw the amazing artwork collected and commissioned by the Popes. Visited the tapestry gallery and gallery of maps before making our way to the Sistine chapel, which was breathtaking and made me quite emotional looking at Michelangelo's masterpiece.
