Today's surfing was suboptimal. The first wave that I took was really nice, but shortly after, I underestimated a wave while going out, it caught the board and hit it over my head. Since I was bleeding, I went out and asked the surfer dudes if it's bad, and they told me no, I don't need to do anything.
So anyway, I went to the pharmacy to get something stopping the bleeding and they actually told me I need to get it stitched by the doctor. The nearest doctor is in Villareal, so I take a taxi there. The place is full of pictures of saints and the virgin mary. Damn, I prefer doctor who know their stuff and don't pray! Anyway, the doctor really tries to make a professional impression and actually desinfects the wound. Ok, when the trashbin falls over and he tries to put it back with his feet while trying to fix my head the image sort of crumbles a bit, but anyway, it's Costa Rica, so pura vida. He fixes me with 4 stitches, and - believe it or not - they have a formula to calculate the cost:
4 x 10 USD + 50 USD = 90 USD.
Unfortunately, I can't do surfing with the stitches, so I have to take a one-week break now. After that, Manuela (one of the swiss language students who is a doctor) took out the stitches with a pincers and a nail scissors during lunch, while everyone else is eating quesadillas (video coming up), so I'm fixed and fine.
