Day 1 is now under our belts, hills and all! We did well in spite of a few wrong turns wending our way through Bellingham. A warning to other touring cyclists - don't take the Interurban Trail through Bellingham unless you have a desire for torture. We discovered that unless you have a mountain bike it isn't a lot of fun. We abandoned that route and just went down Chuckanut Drive. Some people told us this was a dangerous and narrow highway but we had no problems at all. It's true that some sections don't have a lot of shoulder but motorists were patient and courteous and we sailed right through. The rest of the ride was a pleasurable jaunt through the flatlands by the sea.
The only difficulty we encountered was a distinct lack of grocery stores. Should have stopped at that fruit stand 2 miles back:) but luckily we had enough on board for a reasonable dinner. But I forgot the tea and right now I would just love a cup of hot tea.
We are camping at Bay View State Park close to the water - Padilla Bay. The weather is superb and we are looking forward to another glorious day tomorrow.
There is no WiFi here or phone connection. I am writing this sitting outside the women's washroom as I wait for my Garmin to recharge. The only outlet in the whole campground seems to be next to the sink. I will post this when I can.
