I know that I have not written about our last 6 days as we cycled along the beaches of southern California, the easiest, most stress free part of the whole trip (except for navigating through the urban jungle of the California coast). We arrived in San Diego a few days ahead of schedule, rode to the Mexican border just to make the trip officially border to border. This gave us time to be casual tourists and to give our tired bodies a bit of a rest before our flight home and back to our "real" lives. My "real" life felt very distant, and now that I am back home my life as a touring cyclist feels very distant. Did we actually cycle all the way down the coast? Some 1700 miles (not Kilometers)? I guess we did! I don't know if I would do it again, actually I know that I wouldn't do it again. It was challenging both physically and mentally, more so even than our cross Canada tour.
I am so glad I did this trip with Mary, my very compatible and forgiving cycling partner. Thank you Mary for your patience and wisdom.
Probably in a few weeks, after I have recovered both physically and financially from this tour, I will be planning my next adventure!
