This is day three of our tour. Slowly making our way up the east coast of Vancouver Island to Port Hardy. Tonight we are camping in Sayward, a lovely camp ground with all amenities. We are all doing laundry, recharging all electronics as we have been 2 days without power, and just hanging out enjoying a longer afternoon off the bikes. I have been experimenting with my solar charger Power Monkey. It was able to charge my phone as well as the Garmin bike computer. But I have it strapped to the back of my bike for 2 days and it hasn't yet recharged itself, although there wasn't much sun yesterday. But today has been sunny and hot, so if its going to be useful at all it had better be charged by sundown today.
It was a relatively easy ride today, 95 km. Everyone is starting to find those who ride at the same pace. There seems now to be 2 or 3 distinct groups. The faster younger ones (4 in number) then myself and Tom, then Mary and Jim and Will. But no matter what our pace we all make it into camp in good time.
I still have no phone service and wifi is slow so I cannot upload pictures. Maybe tomorrow in Woss as we will be moteling that night with hopefully faster connections.
Later this afternoon 3 men cycled into the campground, fully self contained. Naturally curious about other cyclists and their journeys, I walked over to talk to them and to my surprise we recognized each other! 2 of them Mary and I had met on our Pacific Coast ride last summer, and we had shared campsites for a few days. And as I write this I cannot remember all their names but one called Steve. They are riding up to Prince Rupert also so we will be on the same ferry. But as we head further north they will be going east through Terrace, Prince George and down to Kamloops and back to Vancouver. It is one of the many wonderful events that happens in this cycling community. I have met so many amazing people through this sport.
Now I have to get my laundry out of the dryer. By for now.
I can't seem to be able to post this as the Internet connection is too slow. I will try later.
