Day 1: meeting my fellow travellers, orientation to the tour- routines as well as potential hazards like bears, cougars and chipmunks. Yes, chipmunks, being the biggest hazard given that they can chew through a pannier or handle bar bag with great speed and efficiency to get at any goodies lurking inside!
There are 10 of us on the tour-7 men & 3 women. I was so pleased to see that we are all mature adults with several of us over 60. And many of us expressing concerns about being slow. I think I will find more than one riding buddy who travels at a similar pace to me.
A wine and cheese social and then a lovely dinner out with new friends. I have a feeling that this will be a very different / unique experience.
The cover photo is of the truck that will accompany us, carrying our gear. We each have a spacious storage shelf for our stuff with lots of extra space if needed given that we are a small group. Tomorrow we take the ferry over to Nanaimo and camp at Rathtrevor Park in Parksville. How fun is that ?!
