We get to the hostel about 8pm and find out that Tuesday is samba night, all the locals go dancing through the streets... so quick shower and out to try a spot of samba! The streets are jam packed and we're pre-warned about pickpockets and are told to place money down our undergarments! I felt my pockets being tried on several occassions, but they had no luck, they are so blatent as well, bunch of dirty rats! End up in a sweatbox of a club and samba the night away, very different and muchos fun with my amigos.
Next day we take a ferry to a neighbouring island, called Iticipaca, or something like that. We catch a campervan taxi to a secluded beach and sit down, feet in the water, with a few ice cold cerveza's, happy days! Meet a Brazilian couple on the ferry back and end up drinking the night away and sampling the local food with them. Slap the table and shout "e binga" means get me another drink!
Thursday arrives and we take a bus to Barra, packed beaches and lucky lucky men galore, you have to tell them no literally about 10 times before they give in! Walked up and down but kept having to duck for shade, the midday heat is oppressive!
Salvador seems to have the highest population of stray dogs and cats, I rename the place the City of Dogs. There's a song in there somewhere I think!
Coach to Recife tomorrow, Friday 7th. Making good progress up the coast of Brazil and it's hitting home how big this country is!
