Arrive in Belem at about midday, the travel book says it's not the nicest place in the world so we don't bother with sight seeing! Head off for lunch at a market, £1.50 for a big plate of fish, rice and pea! Not really peas but a near enough fresh salad, food is food... some lad asks me to scrape my leftovers into his plastic bag, help yourself pal!
Buy our tickets for the boat trip, then our hammocks, haggle with man to get very good price! £10 for hammock and mozzie net.
All ready for the boat the next day so we head for an afternoon beer, where I get cornered by a local lady who thinks I am the most beautiful gringo she has ever seen! Declares her love for me and takes photos and gives me her necklace with her name on, Regina! Ha
Evening we go out for Heidi's birthday, end up drinking some rum in a park and heading to a house party gig, columbian band playing songs to shake to! Very good night indeed, 2 hours sleep and then up at 7am to head to the boat to get a decent spot! Decided that hangovers do not exist in south america, just a tiresome feeling which I can deal with!
Amazon here I come... Walking in the steps of the legend that is Sir David Attenborough
