Early wake up at 6am to get the 7.30am bus to Mancolla before changing to cross the border from Ecuador to Peru! This would be my first time so I was rather excited.
The 'fun' began when we went to change our buses half way (planned).... We had seats 1-17 and the thing is in Ecuador, the locals just sit where they like as buses are always over booked. So do you think when a bunch of gringos (tourists) strolled on and asked then to move it was going to affect these stubborn locals? No. So Jeka got quite cross at them and we ended up hopping off and getting a private transfer complementry of G Adventures. Poor Kenneth was incredibly ill and we were waiting in the most humid and dodgy looking area! Jeka had warned us at the beginning that this would probably happen at some point and to be perfectly honest, we had had it pretty straight forward up until then.
No hassels crossing into Peru! YES. It was great because we had to line up to exit Ecuador and then right beside that line we entered Peru! Very straight forward and well organised. Jekka said they are not all that easy. The Peru symbol is really cool, with a curly P.
We exchanged our $US into Soles. The Peruvians are very strict on having money that isn't ripped or torn. It must be in good condition or they simply won't accept it. Jekka taught us how to identify fake money also as she said it is common (Peru is her native country) to be given fake money.
Then owards to our destination... Mancora, a touristy, beach hang out! It has incredible markets - the best so far. More then 10 different pubs along the water front and our hotel is directly on the beach! Holiday haven. The rooms were a bit hit and miss again but Jen, Nat and I managed to get a nice one! We went for a refreshing swim, the water was around 26 degrees and the weather temperature was around 30 degrees. It was bliss!
Mangos for later on... AMAZING! I could live off that fruit. After dinner a bunch of us headed to the bars for some dancing - some lovely locals taught us how to salsa a bit... AMA LA VIDA!!
