So today is my first full day in Thailand. After getting to sleep at 5am - body is no used to the time difference yet, a 8am start probably wasn't the best thing in the world!
We decided that we would hit the things that I hadn't done before, so headed by foot to Wat Pho. On the way stopped by the Victory Monument and found a really beautiful temple- Wat Suthat. We stubled in on the midday prayers - the temple was full of people and monks wondering around.
After that we headed to Wat Pho - the home of the reclining Buddha. Was absolutely stunning. Quite busy, but just really nice. The Buddha itself is made of plaster but is finished in gold leaf.
After sitting in the shade of the temple for a while, we decided to go off to China Town by river. Mark said he knew where the ferry was so I let him lead - wrong move! We ended up walking around the whole of the palace instead of going the short walk to the ferry dock from Wat Pho! Note to self, always check the map, don't just rely on someone else's sense of direction or misdirection in this case!
The ferry to China town was really nice and cool, especially refreshing on such a hot day. Had a wander around the markets of China town, then got some fruit -ate my first mango in Thailand. Was 20Bhat for 2 big mangos all sliced up and with dried chilli! yummy.
After China Town - and another mistake on the ferry by Mark, we headed home for some rest from the sun. We went out later on in the evening, had some really nice food - 90Bhat for a lovely glass noodle and prawn salad! Love this place! We tried to stay up for the football but knew that we had to be up at 6.30 for a full day of walking, so only watched the first half. Headed home around 3.30 and tucked up in bed by 4.
