Had the most sh*t journey to Malaysia from Thailand.
So got on the boat from Koh Tao to Koh Samui at 9.30am, got to Samui at 12.30 - got bus transfer to the other dock where I was supposed to get the boat at 1.30pm. When I got to the dock, they said, no, I have to wait til 5.30pm. I said, well, I was told I was leaving at 1.30. They said, no, that ticket was for the boat at 5.30. Went to an agent, they confirmed that it was boat ticket for the 5.30 boat, not the 1.30 and asked me if I had a bus ticket. I said, no, this was all I had! So, they said - well this is just a boat ticket, not a bus ticket, you need a bus ticket. Managed to get the number for my agent who I bought the ticket from in Koh Tao thanks to Nicky - but she got me the wrong number only realised after a while of talking to the guy that it was the wrong place. Finally got the correct number for the place, but the guy who I booked through wasn't there, his son was who couldn't find my ticket! I even gave him the date that I bought the ticket and the ticket number. After a hell of a lot of calls and help from the agent in Samui, found out that my ticket was also a bus ticket and not to worry! A hell of a lot of money spent on calls and two hours of panicking -joy!
So hung out til 5.30, got on the boat etc - the bus picked us up from Samui itself cause it goes on the ferry. Got to the mainland about 8.30, then set off. Managed to get some sleep on the bus dispite them playing very loud movies on there. Arrived in Hat Yai at 1.30am - where I was taken off the bus and told that I had to stay in Hat Yai for the night (something I had asked not to do and everyone had told me- no worries, no staying Hat Yai!) Was taken to the most disgusting hotel - smelt of urine as soon as I walked in and I was just like- God, please do not let me stay in this hell hole. The room they took me to had what looked like pork scratching in a pack on the floor and chewing gum on the bed - was horrid. The guy then called the hotel owner who said that he had no more rooms, that room was already occupied. Was then taken out of that hotel (not before I saw a rat) and taken to another place which was much nicer - it was actually clean! Thank God.
Managed to get some sleep for a few hours which was good. In the morning I was picked up and taken by taxi to a travel agent in Hat Yai. Once I got to the agent I asked what time I would be leaving, the girl said "oh, in 8 hours" - I was like, hang on, what time, she then told me 12.30pm. I then said, I was told I was leaving at 9, I would like to leave at 9. Luckily there were spaces and she got me on that bus, so left at 10. Immigration was fine - the easiest that I have done. I was asked by the immigration guy if I was Malay - I have a Malay face and surname! Made things very easy looking Malay I think!
Didn't end up getting to KL til 9.30pm - little later than the 2pm that I was orginally told! Managed to get a cab but he hadn't a clue where he was going, so he called the hotel, who were very helpful in giving directions, finally arrived at my hotel at 10.15pm. Totally shattered but got some food - then had a much needed shower (two days of not showering) and headed to bed.
