So, this is my first entry to the blog. First of all, welcome! Second - its lovely and hot here, so hope you're all a bit jealous now.
Got here yesterday, after a pretty routine flight on BA- couldn't sleep as I was too hot on the plane. So was a little tired when I got here and incredibly confused about the time (my body felt like it was 8am, but the clock said 3). Got a taxi into town with the Aussie chap (Richard) who was sat next to me. He's here on his hols with his wife and his mother in law. Very nice guy who was advising me where to go and what to do here in SE Asia and Aus and America.
Got to the hotel, was pouring with rain! Taxi driver just handed me my bag, and seemed to want to get me out of the cab as quickly as possible. Nice chap! Checked in, realised I was on the fourth floor and no lift so had to drag my bags up the stairs. Not fun after the 12 hour flight and near two hour taxi ride. Was pleasantly surprised with the room, was clean and has aircon!
After freshening up, when downstairs and luckily Mark (one of the guys from gapyear) was in the reception. We went out in the pouring rain to the Khao San Road and wondered about for a bit before we decided where we were going to eat. Had some nice food - prawn fried rice only 2quid! Discovered that Mark's a Man U fan, so decided that we would stay up for the match (even though it was at 2am local time!). Spent the rest of the evening just wondering around trying to work out where everyone was from and just generally crowd watching. Found a bar showing the match, sat down and watched the match from last week as Mark missed it. 2am rolled around, and the bar filled up and the match started. Mostly full of Man U fans - English, Aussies, Chinese - nice mix. Was a great atmosphere, especially after Man U scored! Though, for the rest of the match, the tension in the bar was immense. Everyone, apart from the single Barca fan, left happy! Walking back down the Khao San, there were lots of people still enjoying their night out, singing on the street. Got back to our hotel at just past 4 and finally decided that sleep was needed!
